HOW TO CHECK YOUR HOME'S INVENTORY STATUS:

Saint Anthony Village has completed and submitted our service line materials inventory completed through October 2025 to the Minnesota Department of Health. The service line inventory is publicly available, and you can check the materials for your service line by visiting the Lead Inventory Tracking Tool (LITT) at https://maps.umn.edu/LSL/.

When you enter your address in the map, you will see the box with your home's information. This box will tell you the status of your home's service line and whether any action is required.

If your report shows that your Property Classification is Non-Lead, no further action is needed at this time.

DECEMBER 2025 UPDATE ON SERVICE LINE INVENTORY

In late November, 2025 the City sent letters to the residences that are still unknown or have galvanized or lead lines and the next steps in the inventory process.

If the letter you received said your service line is  UNKNOWN Materials, here are your next steps:

If you have already completed the  online survey:

  • Visit the Minnesota Department of Health portal to check the report for your property (https://maps.umn.edu/LSL/)
  • If your report shows that your Property Classification is Non-Lead, you do not need to take any further action.
  • If your Right of Way classification is Unknown, the City will contact you if any future action is needed.

If you have not completed the online survey

  • Take the simple steps below to identify your service line material and complete the online form
  • If you have not completed the survey and are unsure of how to complete the survey, contact our City Code Official to request an in-person inspection
  • Email City Code Official | Phone: 612-782-3438

If the letter you received said your service line has GALVANIZED Materials, you have two options:

Option 1: Act now and have a licensed plumber inspect and, if necessary, replace the lines.

Option 2:  Wait to replace the line while the City of Saint Anthony Village seeks grant funding for replacement. The City will notify you when further information is available.

WHAT IS THE INVENTORY?

The City is conducting an inventory of all water service lines in Saint Anthony Village using multiple tools such as historic records, visual identification, and documentation from replacement projects.

WE NEED YOUR ASSISTANCE.

The Federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has recently strengthened its drinking water standards related to lead and copper. (This is called the Lead and Copper Rule Revision.) The revised requirements protect our public health to an even greater degree by reducing exposure to lead in drinking water. Lead can cause serious health problems if too much enters your body.

PLEASE NOTE:  The drinking water provided to Saint Anthony Village  residents does not contain lead.

However, lead can enter the drinking water from corrosion (the wearing away) of plumbing materials that contain lead. These materials include lead service pipes, lead-based materials (solder) used to join copper pipe, and brass components. These materials were commonly used before 1986.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

As part of the new federal requirements, the City of Saint Anthony will be compiling an  inventory of each water service line in the city to determine the pipe’s composition and to see if it is lead, galvanized steel, non-lead, or unknown.

WHAT IS A WATER SERVICE LINE?

  • A service line is the water pipe that connects the water main on your street to the piping inside of your home.
  • Property owners are responsible for maintaining water services lines from the main into the home.
If your service pipe is identified as lead or galvanized steel, it will eventually need to be replaced.

DO IT YOURSELF INSPECTION IN FOUR EASY STEPS

We need our community to do a quick inspection and submit the information

1. Locate where your water service line (pipe) is located (typically in your basement or crawl space)

2. Identify the pipe material (see photo examples and descriptions below)

3. Take a photo from the lower pipe where it enters your house to just above the water meter. (Your phone camera works great but you might need to use the flash.)

4. Complete the water service line report with photos: LINK TO FORM

NEED HELP?

If you’re not sure if your pipe is lead or galvanized steel, contact City staff at 612-782-3301 to ask questions or to arrange an inspection.
