CITY SUSTAINABILITY NEWS:
SEEKING COMMUNITY INPUT: ACTIVE TRANSPORTATION
The City is developing an Active Transportation Plan to improve walking, biking, and rolling in the community. This plan will identify missing links in sidewalks, trails and bicycle networks, and recommend connections to key community destinations such as schools, retail centers, transit stations, and open spaces. We want to hear about your experiences walking, biking, and rolling around Saint Anthony Village! The survey takes less than 15 minutes to complete and will help inform future projects in our community to make it safer and a more comfortable place to move around. This effort is made possible through the Minnesota Department of Transportation Active Transportation Planning Assistance Grant.

ENERGY SAVING TIPS FOR YOUR HOME THIS FALL AND WINTER:
With colder months approaching, keep these energy-saving tips in mind to help your household save money and stay warm this fall and winter.
1. Before reaching to turn the thermostat up –
Bundle up and double check that all storm windows in your home are completely closed. At night, draw your shades or blinds to keep rooms warmer. And don’t forget to switch your ceiling fans to spin clockwise to push warm air down into the room!
2. Manage your temperature –
Save up to $180 a year by lowering the temperature on your home thermostat 7°F – 10°F when you’re away or asleep. For the best of both worlds, upgrade to a programmable or smart thermostat to warm your home before you wake up or return home.
Visit xcelenergy.com/ACRewards for more information about obtaining a smart thermostat.
3. Take care of your furnaces, vents and heaters so they can take care of you –
Replace or clean your furnace filter every three months or when it looks dirty. And vacuum or dust vent covers and radiator fins to keep your system working at peak efficiency.
Avoid heating unused areas of your home by closing vents or turning down the heat to those areas if able. Use space heaters wisely by directing them towards people, not spaces, and keeping flammable materials away.
