Goal Three: On-going External/Internal Training

  • All officers and Community Service Officers are trained in Fair and Impartial Policing (FIP).
  • All officers and Community Service Officers are trained in Procedural Justice.
  • All officers attend city-wide Anti-Bias Awareness training
  • All officers participate in Mental Health De-Escalation training through the Barbara Schneider Foundation with focus on Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) approach.
  • All officers attend annual Use-of-Force Training, with a strong emphasis on De-escalation, CIT, and ICAT.
  • All officers receive more than the mandated 16 hours of training in mental illness crises, conflict management and medication, recognizing and valuing community diversity and cultural differences, and implicit bias.
  • All officers participate in online training provided by the League of Minnesota Cities 
  • All training is tracked to ensure compliance with State mandates and is consistent with the Strategic Plan, mission, and vision of the police department.
  • All officers receive daily training bulletins on department policy and procedures.
  • Imbedded department instructors are trained in delivering the curriculum for FIP, Procedural Justice, and CIT
