The City of Columbia Heights has initiated design and reconstruction of the water quality pond located at the Silver Lake boat landing site. The purpose of the project is to filter and treat storm water runoff and improve the water quality of Silver Lake.
The contractor proposes to begin construction on or after July 1st. Construction will begin by removing selected trees to allow for regrading of the site. The site will be regraded to include two basin areas. During this time trucks will be hauling soil offsite. The newly constructed basins will filter storm water runoff through an iron/sand filter prior to it entering Silver Lake. Restoration of the site includes an extensive planting plan. It is estimated that the construction will take approximately 6-8 weeks to complete. The estimated completion date is August 24th. During construction, the boat landing will be closed to the public.
Rice Creek Watershed District, the City of Columbia Heights, and onsite construction inspectors will be observing the work to ensure the contractor is following all the permitted requirements for erosion and sediment control.
