Goal Three Accomplishments: Enhance External/Internal Training
- All officers and Community Service Officers trained in Fair and Impartial Policing (FIP).
- All officers and Community Service Officers trained in Procedural Justice.
- All officers attended city-wide Anti-Bias Awareness training
- All officers participated in Mental Health De-Escalation training through the Barbara Schneider Foundation. Training focused on Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) approach.
- Officers, along with members of the community and CRI-TA team members attended two site visits, focusing on training techniques and community engagement.
- All officers attend annual Use-of-Force Training, with a strong emphasis on De-escalation, CIT, and ICAT.
- All officers are receiving more than the mandated 16 hours of training in mental illness crises, conflict management and medication, recognizing and valuing community diversity and cultural differences, and implicit bias.
- Participate in training provided by the League of Minnesota Cities through an online platform, to better cooperate with scheduling, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
- All training is tracked to ensure compliance with State mandates and that all training is consistent with the Strategic Plan, mission, and vision of the police department.
- All officers receive daily training bulletins on department policy and procedures.
- Imbedded and department instructors trained in delivering the curriculum for FIP, Procedural Justice, and CIT.
- Having officers trained as instructors helps with timely refreshers and guaranteed training opportunities at a reasonable cost.
